Traveling Blooms Quilt with Anna Maria Horner

We are thrilled to welcome Anna Maria Horner to our studio where she'll be teaching her very first ever classes in the UK! Anna Maria is one of our favourite fabric designers and a huge source of inspiration to us and so many of our customers. We hope you'll join us for one of her special classes!

Anna Maria designed this study in borders to feature her Floral Retrospective collection along with some choice pieces from her Loominous yarn dyed collections. This is a wonderful introduction to appliqué as well as a great refresher on half square triangles and other simple patchwork. Size and scale is easily customisable, the class it appropriate for all skill levels and a great stepping off point for variations.

Techniques taught in class include:
*Fabric selection
*Tracing, cutting, clipping, pressing and pinning preparation
*Needle turn appliqué by hand
*Raw edge appliqué by machine
*Curved bias strip preparation, applique
*Mylar and acrylic template demos for cutting and pressing appliqué

About your teacher: To many the Anna Maria brand means colour and inspiration in the form of craft, sewing, needlework, books and friendly how-to. Since 2006, her fabric collections have delighted makers around the globe while enlivening their patchwork and sewing projects. Anna Maria's fresh and modern perspective within the creative handcraft community continues to inspire new directions in making as well as earn her a unique place within it.

Materials: You will need to bring or buy the materials for your project. We have gorgeous Traveling Blooms Quilt Kits available for purchase, or you can use the fabric of your choice. To make the 72" x 90" quilt you'll need:
*You'll need a total of eight fabrics for the quilt top
*Background to feature appliqué is finished 18x90” and should be tonal/solid/yarn dyed fabric
*Feature appliqué can be created from various small cuts and fat quarters, more for bias stem
*Border fabric to each side of feature appliqué each measure 6x90” finished
*Two coordinating fabrics to create sawtooth length, and leafy blooms length (1.5 metres each)
*Two separate whole-cloth vertically appealing floral prints are 9x90” and 12x90” finished
*Two Coordinating fabrics for squares on point border (1.25 metres each)
Sewing machines and all tools will be provided. All materials can be purchased at The Village Haberdashery and students receive a 10% discount when they purchase class materials in the shop.

Lunch will be provided for this class and tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the day.

Skills needed: This class is designed for intermediate quilters, but it is open to all levels.
